Do we need Commercial Motor Insurance?
Commercial motor insurance or business vehicle insurance is a legal requirement in the UK. Your vehicles are a crucial part of your job and a standard personal vehicle insurance does not cover you for work. If an employee uses their own vehicle for work you are not obliged to pay their motor insurance but you are required by law to ensure they have the minimum cover. They must disclose to their insurance company that they are using their personal vehicle for business.

There are 3 main types of cover
Third party. This is the minimum cover you can have required by law. It covers you against costs that arise as a result of injuries to other people and damage to their vehicle.
Third party fire and theft. Covers the same as third party but also includes added protection if the vehicle is stolen or destroyed by fire.
Comprehensive. This protects you against all of the above and loss of or damage to, your own vehicle.
